The ECD|HBHC is designed to ensure that all families and their children (prenatal to age six) have access to effective, consistent services and programming within our community. This program focuses on delivering educational sessions, home visits, service coordination, pre-natal groups, nutrition, health and wellness groups, and cultural teachings. Referrals (internal & external) can be made to support the health and developmental needs of our families. Other services are also provided by visiting professionals:

CHILDREN’S ORAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

The Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) is an early childhood tooth decay prevention program geared for children 0- 7 years, their caregivers and pregnant women living on-reserve or accessing on-reserve resources. 


The goal of the initiative is to:
  • Improve oral health for children which supports overall general health
  • Increase the number of children free of tooth decay
  • Reduce the need to use general anaesthetics for treatment of tooth decay
  • Teach and support the parent/caregiver to prevent dental disease for themselves and their children 
  • Introduce children to dentistry in a positive way

Infant Child Development Program

About the Clinic

Appointments will be 1 hour and 30 minutes. During this time Lisa will provide a developmental screening as needed and referrals to other programs and service providers. Developmental screenings include direct play with your child, observations and parent reports

Who?

Designed for children birth to school entry, who may be experiencing difficulties in one or more areas of development

Community Health Education Program

The Community Health Education Program is designed to plan, develop, and implement health promotion, awareness, prevention, and health education activities. This is provided through the health educator and plays a role to motivate community members to participate in health programs and is responsible for improving and maintaining optimum level of health and contribute to improve community health and wellbeing. All activities are open to all community members a list of these are as follows but are not limited to:

DIABETES RELATED PROGRAMMING 

  • Monthly information sessions
  • Healthy eating and cooking/food preparation classes
  • Exercise/fitness classes


COMMUNITY WELLNESS PROGRAMMING 

  • Cultural awareness
  • Mental health awareness
  • Self-care practices


SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAMMING 

  • Monthly support group meetings
  • Youth based prevention challenges
  • 6-week cessation classes 


CANCER RELATED PROGRAMMING 

  • Cancer screening tools
  • Monthly health promotion themes e.g., breast cancer, prostate cancer, and your skin & the sun  awareness


HIV/AIDS AWARENESS AND HARM REDUCTION 

  • Sexual Health and Wellness
  • Health themed events e.g., National AIDS day
  • Hygiene kits

Elder's Social Activities Program

The Elder’s Social Activities Program is designed to encourage elders in the community to keep active, maintain social contact and make their daily lives more pleasurable, we provide places where they can meet, socialize, and enjoy a variety of activities on their own leisure. Our program focuses on the needs and interest of our elders. The Elder’s Social Activities Worker also supports the elders and provides internal and external referrals and links them to appropriate services and programs.

Some of the activities for the elders but are not limited to are: 


  • Board games
  • Social Tea time
  • Physical Activities (chair exercise, fitness, aquatics and other recreational activities)
  • Quilting 
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Discussion groups 
  • Health Education 
  • Nutrition 
  • Tours 
  • Luncheons

ELDER’S MONTHLY LUNCHEON

Luncheons are a social activity for community elders to congregate together to visit, join to sit and have a meal together once a month. Each month a new meal is catered to ensure elders are receiving a healthy balance of activity and nutrition.
