Non-Insured Health Benefits

The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program is a Health Canada program that provides coverage to registered First Nations and recognized Inuit for a specified range of medically necessary items and services that are not covered by other plans and programs. 

The NIHB Clerk assists Garden River Band Members who are eligible for Health Canada to cover the following benefits:

  • Prescription Drugs and Over-The-Counter Medication
  • Medical Equipment and Supplies
  • Dental Benefits & Eye and Vision Care (this service not offered on site) but may refer.
  • Medical Transportation (out of town medical appointments) includes alcohol, solvent, drug abuse and detox treatment.
  • Crisis Counselling (Short Term Crisis Intervention Mental Health Counselling)
