Youth Prevention and Education


The Youth Wellness Coordinator runs programming from the Garden River Rec Centre. There are several programs that run weekly throughout the school-year and summer youth camps in the summer months, there are also special events planned throughout the year. 

The Child and Youth Health Education programs and services include:


  • Youth Leadership Program - For ages 13 to 24 years - Tuesdays & Thursdays 3:30 - 6:00 p.m.


  • Fit Zone - For ages 10 to 12 years - Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.


  • Youth Gym Drop In -  For ages 10 to 17 years - Mondays & Wednesdays - 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.; Tuesdays & Thursdays - 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., & Fridays 3:30 - 7 p.m.


  • Various Youth Wellness Workshops and Training Opportunities, e.g. Nutrition Matters, Healthy Relationships, Healthy Sexuality, Youth Gambling Awareness (YGAP), Commercial Tobacco Prevention (YATI), etc.

The Youth Workshops are for Garden River Band/Community members ages 13-18 years. 

All workshops will take place at the Garden River Education Unit in the Youth Lounge from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. All interested Youth should call at least 2 days in advanced to pre-register for the workshop(s) they wish to attend. This ensures that all participants receive a meal and an incentive. Seats are limited!
