Prevention and Education

The Community Outreach Prevention and Education Programs and Services organize and host many events for the promotion of health  and wellness for Garden River members. Please see the Monthly Event Calendar or Community Outreach Calendar for more information on upcoming events.  


COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION

Community Health Education provides health promotion activities on various health topics through interactive workshops/activites, guest speakers, and poster campaigns/pamphlets. 

Some of these activities include:

  • Spring Walking Program
  • Cancer Peer Support Group
  • Men’s Wellness Seminar
  • Women’s Wellness Seminar
  • Diabetes Education Class
  • Daffodil Walk and Luncheon
  • Drum for Smoking Cessation
  • HIV/AIDS Information
  • Busy Hands /Creative  Minds
  • Quilt Show and Luncheon
  • Basket Making

ELDERLY AND DISABLED ACTIVITIES

The Elderly and Disabled Activities Worker organizes programs and events geared towards the needs and interests of the Elderly and Disabled population in Garden River First Nation. 

Some of these Programs/Events include:

  • Sewing Program - There are several sewing projects throughout the year. 
  • Craft Day -  A monthly program; there are several craft projects completed throughout the year. 
  • Elder’s Breakfast Bingo -  A monthly program; there is a variety of breakfast items before the bingo game is played. 
  • Family Swim Night - Weekly program from September to June.
  • Elder’s Luncheon - A monthly program; The location changes between the Community Centre and the Silver Creek Golf Course. 
  • Make and Take - A monthly program; preparation of an easy, healthy recipe that participants make and take home with them. 

Transportation is available.
